Monday, January 30, 2017 — The OECS Commission extends deepest condolences to the Director, staff and students of St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) on the passing of three students enrolled in the college.

In particular, the Commission sympathizes with the Director, Mr.  Nigel Scott and Mrs.  Hazel Roberts, Head of Department Hospitality, and the SVGCC’s representative on the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Tourism (ECIT) Task Force, as they mourn the death of three hospitality students from the Community College who died this morning in an accident on their way to the airport.  The students were due to return to St Vincent after their internship at the Crane Hotel in St Phillips, Barbados.

OECS Tourism Specialist, Dr. Lorraine Nicholas noted that coincidentally, the OECS Network of Excellence for Tourism and Hospitality Training an Education (NETHTE) project team was in constant communication with Mr.  Scott and Mrs.  Roberts to organize a visit by a consultant on the NETHTE project, Dr.  Jennifer Edwards who is currently on the campus attempting to console the grieving SVGCC family. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the family and friend of the students.
