Shani Haynes representing Massacre emerged triumphant out of a field of seven ladies to capture the ultimate prize – The Madame of Madams, in the 2016 Madame Wob Dwiyet Canada.Cultural Show.
The position of 1st runner-up was taken by Marcella Durand of Petite Soufriere while Fallon Lawrence of Roseau secured the 2nd runner-up spot. A total of seven contestants, all former Madams or first runners-up, competed in the contest which was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.
The event was staged at the St.Peters &.Paul.Banquet Hall to a packed house.
Other awards were presented to contestant Revelyn St.John for “Best in Wob” and the “Belle Madame” online award. Shani Haynes also took “Best in costume”, while Fallon Lawrence secured “Best Introduction”.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister for Planning, Economic Development and Investment Dr.Colin McIntyre and Coordinator for Diaspora Affairs Athenia Benjamin.
The Show marked the observance of the 5th-anniversary celebrations of Madame Wob Dwiyet Canada Inc., which was founded by Lorraine Delsol, Vanessa Dupie, Glenora Joseph-Parker and Athenia Benjamin. The 2016 Madame of Madams Wob Dwiyet Canada Show ran under the theme “Viva Cissi Caudeiron”, in honour of one of Dominica’s cultural icons.
