PITON NOIRE RELEASES FOURTH BOOK IN THE FLYING CRAPAUD ANTHOLOGY SERIES
The Flying Crapaud IV: Unexpected Door Opens a New Chapter in Caribbean Science Fiction, Fantasy and Folklore
September 2026 – Piton Noire, the Caribbean-rooted science fiction and fantasy writing collective, announces the publication of The Flying Crapaud IV: Unexpected Door, the fourth installment in its growing The Flying Crapaud anthology series.
With Unexpected Door, Piton Noire continues its mission of placing Caribbean voices, landscapes, traditions and imagination at the center of speculative fiction. The collective brings together writers connected to Dominica, the wider Caribbean and beyond, united by an interest in exploring science fiction, fantasy and folklore through distinctly Caribbean perspectives.
The new anthology takes readers into worlds where the supernatural and futuristic collide with familiar Caribbean realities. Among its stories: Villagers are haunted by a vengeful sea spirit;
- A young woman encounters a malevolent force after a night out
- A sorcerer’s theft of a sacred orb condemns a village to darkness
- A Soucoyant defends the old ways before a modernized Witches Council
- A young boy confronts climate change when it snows on his island
The result is a collection in which Caribbean culture is not simply a backdrop. It is the foundation on which new worlds are built.
The Flying Crapaud IV: Unexpected Door
The title reflects the spirit of the collection itself: opening a door without knowing exactly what waits on the other side.
Across the anthology, readers encounter stories grounded in recognizable Caribbean experiences but unconstrained by conventional boundaries between folklore, fantasy and science fiction.
For Piton Noire, the fourth book also represents another step toward a larger objective-developing a body of speculative literature in which Caribbean writers can imagine their own heroes, monsters, futures and alternate realities while drawing strength from the region’s cultural inheritance.
The collective describes its growing body of work as part of a broader effort to place the Caribbean at the heart of speculative storytelling.
The Flying Crapaud IV: Unexpected Door is available now.
