The 2025 Write-Tukubuli Virtual Literary Festival has successfully concluded a vibrant week-long celebration of Dominican and Caribbean creativity, drawing an astounding 70+ Dominican writers from around the world. The Festival’s unique programming ranged from dynamic panel discussions to intimate author interviews, showcasing the power and future of storytelling in an evolving literary landscape.
The Festival was organized and executed as a collaboration of some of Dominica’s prominent writing associations: Waitukubuli Writers, Piton Noire Collective, Nature Isle Literary Festival (Facebook and Domnichen Poetic Circle. The Festival’s primary media sponsor was TDN Network.
This year’s Festival brought together emerging and established voices who submitted excerpts of their work, participated in crucial conversations on the future of literature, and engaged in writer workshops designed to inspire and equip the next generation of authors.
The Festival’s primary stage was the @writetukubuli YouTube channel, where audiences worldwide tuned in to enjoy the full range of programs—and where the rich archive of festival content remains available for ongoing viewing. The celebration culminated in a six-hour live-streamed finale, featuring a dynamic mix of live hosts, DJ sets, open-mic sessions, author interviews, panel discussions, and special presentations—a fitting close to a week celebrating both tradition and innovation in literary arts.
Representatives for the collaborating groups shared their reflections on this significant Event:
“The Waitukubuli Writers organization was happy to be part of this worthwhile venture. The response by writers and authors in Dominica and the diaspora, shows that Dominica’s literary landscape is alive and well.” Roy Sanford, (Waitukubuli Writers).
“On a personal note, this festival was the thing I didn’t know I needed. It was exhilarating! For Piton Noire, this could potentially help us attract more writers who want to explore the sci-fi/fantasy and folklore genres but aren’t sure how to get started. The creativity, diversity, and commitment of our writers reaffirm the power of storytelling to connect, challenge, and inspire audiences everywhere. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with the team, hopefully something great comes out of the effort.” Sam George, current Chairman of the Piton Noire Collective
“The festival was a powerful comeback for the island’s literary scene, drawing from the memory of late playwright Dr. Alwyn Bully and the past Nature Island Literary Festivals. Write-Tukubuli 2025 turned out to be an unprecedented, and awesome event. This new Festival allays the loss of the Nature Island Literary Festival; Dominica’s literary scene appears to be rising from “the ashes” like a Phoenix. What seemed to be a monumental feat turned out to be a “picnic by the river”. A successful endeavor from a monumental feat.” Les Li (Domnichen Poetic Circle).
“The Nature Island Literary Festival (NILF) Facebook page was thrilled to collaborate with the other organisations in planning and delivering the first ever Write-Tukubuli Virtual Literary Festival, and to continue the vision and mission of the late Dr Alwin Bully, founder of NILF and first chair of the organising committee — to celebrate, encourage, champion, support and inspire Dominican writers and Caribbean literary arts in general.” Celia Sorhaindo (The Nature Isle Literary Festival-Facebook).
“TDN Media and G & D Enterprises are proud and honored to have been part of the Write-Tukubuli literary festival. This Festival carved out a space where the rich spread and depth of Dominican Literature was on full display to be enjoyed and explored. The collaboration, and unselfish sharing and support among all participants, were particularly special.” Anthony Drigo (TDN Network).
