TDN Radio will once again be covering the 6th edition of African Fashion Week Toronto (AFWT) – the fastest growing diverse
Fashion Week in Canada.

AFWT will be staged over a four day period, August 30th – September 2nd 2018, celebrating arts, culture, fashion, style, and achievements, inside The Globe and Mail Centre (351 King St. East, Toronto). AFWT was established by the African Fashion Canada Organization in 2012, and according to the Organization, has grown to become the highest attended mainstream platform for African fashion creatives and fashion lovers in Canada.

#AFWT2018 officially launches on Thursday, August 30th with their AFWT Fashion Seminar from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm featuring a panel of diverse and notable industry professionals as they share their experiences and educate on key strategies for succeeding in the fashion industry.

Starting at 7:00 pm the AFWT Opening Media Soiree & Student Designer Competition (SDC) welcome 8 student designers that will go head to head on the runway showcasing their debut fashion collections. This year’s 1st, 2nd & 3rd place SDC winners will receive brand new sewing machines courtesy of AFWT’s official Sewing Machine Sponsor Janome Canada.

On Friday, August 31st & Saturday, September 1st AFWT will feature 20+ high fashion designers from Canada and abroad who will be showcasing their premium collections inside The Globe and Mail Centre. AFWT is excited to welcome Tanzanian based designer Diana Magesa and Dallas, Texas-based celebrity designer Esé Azénabor to Canada. The King of Couture” Adebayo Jones returns with his debut collection Africana By AJ featuring luxury wax prints.

For the last day of #AFWT2018 on Sunday, September 2nd the organization will be celebrating achievements in the Pan-African fashion industry at the African Fashion Industry Awards (#AFIA2018). Attendees are in for a treat as the red carpet will come alive with a special performance by the All Saints Band. #AFIA2018 is very excited to honour Marvel’s Black Panther Movie Costume Director Ruth E. Carter with the 2018 Excellence Award.

#AFIA2018 is also extremely honoured to have the presence from members of the royal family as they will be presenting Princess Tessy of Luxembourg with the 2018 Global Empowerment Award. The Princess will be escorted by her two sons, Prince Gabriel and Prince Noah. The awards ceremony will close off with a luxury runway showcase by Adebayo Jones.
